Styling Concert&Band Tees

I think we’ve all noticed how trendy band shirts have become. I personally see them all the time on Pinterest and it always looks so badass. I, myself, don’t own any, BUT! I think concert tee-shirts can easily give off the same vibes if styled well. So today, I will share some styling tips and tricks to get a similar look and make a use out of all those concert tees you own, but mostly wear as pajamas because let’s be real, most of them come in unflattering shapes and lengths. Plus, with the festival season right ahead of us, these could make great outfits.

My first tip is to reshape the shirt. Don’t worry, it doesn’t involve any sewing, because ain’t nobody got time for that! So because most of the concert tees are long for nothing, I suggest to grab a pair of scissors and simply crop the shirt to a length you feel comfortable in. Make sure you use fabric scissors and don’t cut too much of the graphics or image on the shirt because that’s the look’s main attraction. And don’t worry too much about the cut or the seams. If you have threads coming out and the cut is uneven, it’s perfectly fine. I think it adds more to the look. But if that reallyyyy bothers you, you can skip the scissors part and try to tuck the ends of your shirt under your bra and and adjust the length that way.

Then, if you are going for a carefree look, you can also cut the sleeves off and make it into a muscle tank top. I personally prefer to simply cuff them, but make sure to not forget this step because concert shirts often have really awkward looking sleeve lengths and it’s not really cute.

Now that you’ve transformed your tee, it’s time to style it. There are obviously many ways to style band or concert shirts. The easy look would be to just pair it with some nice distressed jeans, shorts or mini skirt and throw on some cool sneakers. But easy looks aren’t fun. My advice, is to experiment and try on things that you wouldn’t usually go for. That’s how the best outfits are often made.

I decided to mix different styles together. My top is an old concert tee I bought at a Bruno Mars concert 4 years ago. I went with some high-waisted trousers that have subtle blue lines, which tie in with the colors on my shirt, and white air force Nikes. I wore a leather jacket as well to add more of that “badass” kind of vibe. I finished off the look with bright lips and a high ponytail.

I think THE best way to wear these shirts is to pair them with long, wide leg pants and some nice pumps.  I remember seeing a picture of Gigi Hadid looking chic AF! and rocking the look (which I will find and link here, with more inspo).

Lastly, if you have a more feminine style, a great way to wear these tees is to pair them with flowy mid-length skirts. Instead of cropping the shirt, you can try tying a knot on the side. I know it can sound a bit weird at first, but with a nice sleek bun, the right lipstick and cat-eye sunglasses, you can get the perfect “elegant rockstar” look (I don’t think that’s a thing, but just go with it.. lol).

I hope these tips and tricks were helpful, but remember, the most important thing about fashion is to just have fun with it.

Until next time,
